Stress Echocardiogram

A stress echocardiogram is a treadmill test is a test that investigates the possibility of having coronary artery disease (narrowing of the coronary arteries), exercise induced arrhythmias, and provides a functional assessment of your exercise capacity to guide future intervention for valvular heart disease in addition to other indications.

The test has three steps:

  1. Resting echocardiogram is performed to assess the resting function of your heart.
  2. You will then be asked to perform exercise on a treadmill while your heart is being monitored with a 12-lead ECG.
  3. Post-exercise echocardiogram is performed immediately to assess your function after vigorous exercise.

Your cardiologist will assess all the information prior to discussing the results with you.
