Transoesophageal Echocardiogram (TOE)

This is a procedure during which a small ultrasound probe is passed into the oesophagus and stomach. It is carried out after a local anaesthetic spray helps numbs your throat and some intravenous sedation is administered to help you relax. It provides useful information on the function of your heart valves and checks for clots inside your heart before cardioversions.
